ABOUT THE COURSEMusic Technology students at the Horizon School Hartlepool will have the opportunity to be creative in the way that they listen, explore and understand music. Students will be able to critically analyse music, which in turn helps them to understand composition and performance. Students wil explore the cultural significance of different musical genres and develop an understanding of how the history of music and music technology has helped shape society as we know it today. Students will have the opportunity to create and perform music that will draw on their existing strengths as well as develop new skills.

THE UNITS
Sound Effects in music productionThis unit will provide learners with an opportunity to produce a sound effect. While doing so they will develop an understanding of different types of effects and how they are used as an understanding of the production process. This process will also assist in the development of a learners problem solving, teamwork and ICT skills.

Audio effects processors in music productionThe purpose of this unit is to develop a students ability to use different types of effects processes and use this knowledge to save and recall effects. In addition, to gain knowledge of this subject matter, learners will also develop their problem solving. ICT and organisational skills through using, setting up and investigating the equipment.

multi track mixing skillsThis unit will provide students with the opportunity to demonstrate their ability to mix audio from multi-track recordings. Students will show they can adjust sound levels, stereo panning, tonal qualities and effects to create an effective mix of multiple pre-recorded audio tracks

the ncfe qualification
The purpose of this qualification is to:
- enable students to progress to a level 2 music technology qualification.
- provide students with an introduction to the knowledge and technical skills required in music technology.
- apply their knowledge of music technology in context.
- develop and use ICT, communication, project management, time management and team working skills.
To achieve the level 1 award in Music Technology, students must successfully demonstrate their achievement of all learning outcomes and assessment criteria of the units as detailed in the qualification specification which can be found at www.ncfe.org.uk/units
